How we rate products
MoorPicks compares everyday home and kitchen products so you can choose quickly and confidently. Here is exactly how our pages are built, including what we do not do.
Where our information comes from
- The Amazon listing. Title, price, star rating, number of ratings, the rating breakdown, the seller's feature list and the technical details table.
- The manufacturer. When the listing is incomplete or contradictory, we look up the brand's own product page or manual and use their figures.
- Independent reviews. Where a reputable publication has tested the product, we read it and cite it on the product page.
- Verified owner reviews. We read owner reviews for recurring themes, both praise and problems, especially long-term durability.
Every product page lists its sources. If a spec can't be confirmed, we show it as “—” rather than guess.
The six scores
Every product gets six scores from 0 to 10, which form its rating chart:
- Performance. How well it does its core job, based on the specs and what owners report.
- Build quality. Materials, construction and long-term durability reports from owners.
- Ease of use. Setup, everyday handling, cleaning and care requirements.
- Versatility. How many jobs it covers: sizes, modes, compatible cooktops or uses.
- Value. What you get for the price compared with similar products.
- Owner satisfaction. Calculated from the Amazon star rating: 3.0★ = 0 and 5.0★ = 10.
The overall score is the simple average of the six. Owner satisfaction is calculated, not judged: a 3.0-star Amazon average scores 0, 5.0 stars scores 10, and everything in between is proportional (for example, 4.6 stars = 8.0).
Comparing products fairly
Specs are normalized into the same fields and units for every product, so the comparison tool can line them up and highlight the best value in each row. Scores are most meaningful when comparing products of the same type.
Prices
Prices are a snapshot taken the day we last updated a product, and every price shows that date. Amazon changes prices often; the price on Amazon at the moment you buy is the one that applies.
Money and independence
We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links (see our affiliate disclosure). That never changes a score: we list cons for every product, and we include critical owner reviews on every product page.
